Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. If you think you know the Silver Surfer well THINK AGAIN!  Here are some mind blowing facts about Norrin Radd that could have you hoping that he gets his OWN Marvel Movie!(Facts Courtesy of Comic Vine)

-silver-surfer-#1Uniqueness – Although this does not really classify as a weakness, he is unique through out the multiverse, and the Living Tribunal offered a moment of Godhood to the Surfer because of this.

Power Cosmic – In order for Norrin Radd to be a herald for Galactus, Galactus gives Norrin some of his cosmic powers possessing him with the Power Cosmic.

-silver-surfer-galactusInvulnerability – The Silver Surfer’s skin is nearly impossible to penetrate, capable of withstanding extreme pressures and temperatures. He can travel through the core of a star and even through black holes without injury or disorientation.

Regeneration – The Silver Surfer can regenerate parts of himself with the Power Cosmic, including his board, at will.

Super Strength – The Power Cosmic gives the Silver Surfer incredible strength and he has fought some of the most powerful beings in the universe including Thor, the Hulk, Thanos and the Champion of the Universe.

Phasing – The Surfer has the ability to make himself intangible and phase through any wall or objects. This also can be done to make himself invulnerable from attack.

Stamina – The Silver Surfer does not need to breathe and can survive in any condition. He does not need to eat or drink to sustain himself but he sometimes does to remember it. The Surfer rarely needs rest and can go for years without tiring.

Energy Absorption – The Surfer’s skin is designed to absorb various energies from beta particles to light. He is constantly being charged from hundreds of nearby stars and energies from distant galaxies. He can change this absorption into reflection if he chooses. The Surfer has also absorbed so much energy from a sun before, that he turned into a living bomb.

Blast Power – The Surfer can absorb and tap into ambient cosmic energy into his body at will and allowing him to use these energies at different forces. The Surfer could also channel energy through his hands also known as energy beams that can destroy a star. He can use various energies for offensive purposes as well. He can create large blasts or beams down to the subatomic level.

-Silver_Surfer_2Energy Manipulation – The Surfer can use energy to create force fields and shields. He can solidify energy to imprison enemies. He can manipulate the energies around him to make space travel possible for beings around him that can not survive in space.

Matter Control – The Silver Surfer can rearrange matter to create other objects of importance by rearranging molecules. He can also change the state of matter, such as changing solids into gas. Matter Transmutation helps the Surfer escape traps and prisons and can also be used to make an enemies weapons inactive.

Super Speed – The Silver Surfer can travel at speeds faster than light. His mind and body can be used at these speeds as well, making the Surfer extremely reactive and agile.

Flight – The Silver Surfer travels as easily on a planet’s gravity than he does through space. He can fly and turn and maneuver at extremely high speeds. He can also levitate without his board.

Time Manipulation – The Surfer can create enough speed to travel through time either forward or backward. The Surfer can also see the past by pulling back the layers of time. He can create quantum spheres capable of traveling anywhere with a thought.

Healing – The Surfer can use the Power Cosmic to heal wounds but he cannot raise the dead. The Surfer has the power to speed the evolution of organic life.

Telepathy – The Surfer has shown the ability to read minds and sometimes needs to make a conscious effort not to. He prefers to speak rather than read a person’s thoughts.

Super Sight – The Silver Surfer can see for light years down to the molecular level. He is able to change his vision to many different spectrums of light and radiation. This makes the Surfer one of the best trackers in the universe, able to trace a grain of sand in a quasar to picking up any type of energy signature and following it for light years.

Super Senses – The Surfer has incredible hearing making him nearly impossible to sneak attack. He is totally aware of his entire surroundings down to the molecule. He has a cosmic awareness to a certain level, capable of knowing a person’s location when nearby or able to detect his enemies weaknesses.

Power Alterations – Super beings that make contact with the Surfer can also have their powers altered when making contact with other super-beings. This was seen in Marvel Zombies when Hulk bit the Surfer’s head off and they obtained the power of the cosmos.

Power upgrade – During anniliation the Silver Surfer’s powers were upgraded by Galactus vastly. He was tested by Ravenous an agent of Annilius, and dispatched him with little to no effort. He also destroyed a whole planet by himself after his upgrade. This upgrade also came in good use when Thanos had a created a machine to keep the Surfer and Galactus in check and set it to his own power output, so that he could only open it, but the Surfer was able to match (while severly weakened ) Thanos’ power output and free himself and Galactus, which demonstrates how much powerful he is with his latest power upgrade

Surfboard – The Silver Surfer rides a board that is composed of the same material of the silver coating that covers his whole body. Highly dependent of the board, it is also mentally linked to the Silver Surfer himself, so if he was to be separated from his board, he could still control and command it mentally. Almost indestructible, the board can be used as both weapon and shield, if the board does take damage or is broken, the Silver Surfer can either repair the board or recreate a whole new one. Silver Surfer can also use the board to imprison or incase an individual, but only for a limited amount of time.

-spacesurferThe connection between the board and the Silver Surfer is unknown, when Galactus trapped the Silver Surfer within Earth, it was because of his board that Silver Surfer couldn’t leave planet Earth. Upon discovering this, Silver managed to leave Earth through other means without his board and remade another one when he was in space. It is unknown the full limitations of Silver Surfers board. A common misconception between Silver Surfer and his board is that it is believed that his powers are granted to him through it, which is not the case. Silver Surfers board has been destroyed on a number of occasions and he has easily been able to create a new one.

BLURPPY EXCL TMI think it is pretty safe to say that Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi epic, “Blade Runner” is at the top of a lot of folks lists when it comes to favorite movies.  One of the MANY reasons it is as powerful and memorable for so many is because the soundtrack seamlessly blends into the film.  Like any good soundtrack, it accentuates the movie rather than dominates it.  It brings mood and tone, to a film that is smothered in these aspects.

_moments-lost-posterOn May 31st Bottleneck Gallery and Analog Sweden have partnered to celebrate the blending of music and art of “Blade Runner” with a must see exhibit called “Moments In Time.”

The exhibit features art by Godmachine, Raid 71, Kakofonia, Andy Hau, Cuyler Smith and more.  The Poster Posse has a strong presence in the show as well with Laurie Greasley, Marko Manev, Marie Bergeron and Matt Ferguson also contributing.  Today we are pleased to exclusively share two images for the show by Marie Bergeron and Matt Ferguson and they are quite spectacular.

Grey Matter Art is back with another outstanding offering.  This time around they have collaborated with Kilian Eng for an amazing print for the George A Romero’s 1968 cult classic, “Night of the Living Dead.”

Here is what Grey Matter Art’s Mike Gregory had to say about this project.  “Before we decided to tackle this project, we really wanted to find the right artist to agree to it. This film is very special to me, and I see it as one of the best horror classics of all time. It still holds up to this day when I watch it. So picking the right artist to portray it correctly was important to me. When I think of Kilian, I don’t immediately think of him doing this type of genre, but for some reason it just seemed to fit well together. So we got in touch, and he said before he agrees, he wanted to view it. He did, and said yes. It didn’t take long for the piece to come together, he pretty much nailed the idea the first time around after adding a couple of tweaks.

night_of_the_living_dead_3

I think even though Kilian is known for his amazing Sci-Fi posters, I see this poster as one of his absolute best. Night of the Living Dead may have some great posters out there already, but I see this as an instant classic, representing the movie perfectly, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Kilian taking on more classic horror films in the future”.

Dark Hall Mansion & Kilian Eng Take Us To The “Forbidden Planet”

$

In 1956, fans journeyed to the 23rd century in the sensational sci-fi classic by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, “Forbidden Planet.”  This movie’s special effects were nominated for an Academy Award and it gave us one of pop culture’s most identifiable figures, Robbie the Robot.

600full-forbidden-planet-poster

Today Dark Hall Mansion announced a stunning print that pays homage to the film by Kilian Eng.  Kilian was kind enough to speak with us about the film and the project and this is what he had to say.

BLURPPY:  What was your approach to this project?

KILIAN: The first step was to re-watch the film and take in as much as possible of its magic. This film is full of that and for me much has to do with the amazing setting. As soon as this movie came up as a potential new project I instantly thought of the environments. It had been quite some time since I watched it last time but I immediately started to think about how I could incorporate that as much as possible. Those who follow my work know that I often like to include environments as much as possible in the theme.

B&w sketch

After watching the film taking some notes this project was pretty straight forward in the sketching phase. I presented two sketches to DHM that looked like this (See sketch 01 and sketch 02) one vertical and one horizontal version. Before that I had done a black & white version just to try out the basic composition.

They liked the initial idea and asked if I could do a version a bit more detailed.

Sketch3

This version is a step closer to the original and was sent to the studio togheter with the initial roughs for final approval.

The reason to go with a horizontal format is because its more generous when drawing landscapes.

Sketch2

BLURPPY:  I agree and since the original poster from 1956 is horizontal, it’s great to come at it from a different perspective. How many iterations did you go through before you decided upon the final version?

KILIAN: It was quite a few. I had a dialogue with DHM getting feedback.  We had decided on the basic composition but some things changed trough the process. The most important change from the first versions to the finished is the background. My initial image had the background with the mountains, base and desert but much closer to the foreground. This was changed later on to get the feeling of more distance and depth. (See the image “different earlier versions, work in progress) those are some of the earlier versions of work in progress

Different earlier vewrsion (work in progress)

BLURPPY:  What was the toughest part of the Forbidden Planet print?

KILIAN: As I mentioned before the film is set in a magical world. To capture some of this. Im happy with it but I leave it to the viewer to decide if I finally succeeded.

BLURPPY: Robby The Robot is a well known pop culture character but you chose to make his appearance more subtle, was this a conscious effort and if so why?

KILIAN: When making a poster for a classic sci-fi with such a recognizable character like Robby the Robot its is of course very tempting to put him in focus and in the centre. The original posters for the film does this very well. Even though Robby deserves this attention being and great character I wanted to change focus a bit.

Sketch1

My main fascination with the film lies in the world as whole and therefor wanting to show that in a generous way.  Robby and the young girl Altaira are present but as a part of the bigger picture so to speak.

BLURPPY:  Are there any hidden easter eggs in the image?

KILIAN: If so I leave it to the viewer to explore.

Well, we love a mystery and we shall start scouring this print to see if we can find any hidden gems.  Click the link below to see the final images along with the official press release from Dark Hall Mansion.

Dark Hall Mansion, beams slightly to
the future in revealing its latest officially licensed limited edition
print release: “FORBIDDEN PLANET” by contemporary artist, Kilian Eng, on
sale next Wednesday, June 17th, 2015!

Dark Hall Mansion, under license from Warner Bros.
Consumer Products, will release Kilian Eng’s futuristic take on the 1956
classic that’s shaped the very template of countless Sci-Fi films to
come. Kilian’s interpretation is at once moody and atmospheric, his
approach right from the outset was to specifically make his “Forbidden
Planet” about this strange far-flung world, focusing not only on
environment but tone. At once organic and quietly futuristic, it allows
the viewer to search out classic sci-fi elements, not the least of which
is one quite unique and ground breaking robot.

Robot. Richly printed in warm tones, Kilian’s Standard edition comes in
